Breeze Summer Club In Cyprus Upgrades Lighting For 2022 With ADJ Vizi Beam 12RX and Jolt 300 Fixtures

Breeze Summer Club on the Mediterranean island of Cyprus recently completed its first full summer season following the global pandemic. The venue, which is one of the island’s premiere clubbing destinations, has an extensive lighting system comprised almost exclusively of ADJ fixtures. At the start of each season this is renovated and upgraded, which this year involved the installation of eight Vizi Beam 12RX moving head luminaires and fourteen Jolt 300 LED-powered wash / strobe / eye candy fixtures. Throughout the summer these have proved to be effective additions to the club’s lighting, helping to create a variety of impressive looks and effects.

Operating seasonally, Breeze is an open-air nightclub located on the coast in the Cypriot city of Limassol. It features covered seating and bar areas surrounding a central dance area which is open to the sky and has views out to sea. At night the whole space is filled with fresh sea breezes, hence the venue’s name. Since it’s opening in 2006, Breeze has developed a reputation as an essential destination for the island’s summer clubbers and regularly hosts both European and international events featuring well-known Greek artists as well as famous international DJs.
 
The club is owned and operated by the Breeze Group, which is an award-winning entertainment and dining company that also operates a number of other restaurants, bars, and clubs across the island. For its sound and lighting needs, the company has a longstanding relationship with audiovisual equipment suppliers and integrators SP Megasound Ltd, based in the Cypriot capital of Nicosia. Established in Cyprus for over 20 years, SP Megasound Ltd supplies many clubs, bars, restaurants, hotels, and other leisure venues across the island, and is a leading distributor of ADJ lighting equipment.

As part of the club’s annual upgrade ahead of this summer’s season, a new circular structure was installed in the center of the open-air space, above a central stage / dance platform located next to the DJ booth. This was designed specifically to provide rigging for eight of ADJ’s new Vizi Beam 12RX moving head beam fixtures, which serve as the new focal point for the whole club’s lighting system. ADJ’s next generation beam moving head, the Vizi Beam 12RX is powered by the brilliant 260W Philips® Platinum 12R LL MSD Discharge Lamp (6,000 hr.). It produces a razor sharp 2-degree beam of light and offers a wide variety of beam-shaping tools, including 14 colors + open (with color indexing), 16 GOBOs + open (with GOBO indexing), two rotating prisms (6-facet linear and 24-facet circular) and a frost filter for wash effects. All these features are employed at Breeze, where it is used to create aerial effects shooting out across the crowd and up into the night sky as well as to illuminate performers on stage utilizing its frost filter to function as a wash luminaire.
 
“Beam moving heads are crucial for this venue,” explains SP Megasound Ltd’s Antonis Skotinos. “It is primarily an outdoor space, which means that the whole sky above can be filled with beams. By upgrading the club to the Vizi Beam 12RX we have been able to deliver that extra power which takes the aerial effects to the next level. Both our own team and the club’s management have been very impressed by these fixtures, they are very versatile and extremely powerful.”

The club’s pre-summer upgrade also saw the installation of ADJ’s Jolt 300 LED fixtures. These multi-function wash / strobe / blinder / eye candy luminaries feature a central strip of 144 x 0.5W white SMD LEDs, surrounded on both sides by 144 x 1.5W color mixing RGB SMD LEDs (each divided into three independently controllable zones). This provides lighting designers with the creative potential of generating strikingly bright white strobe effects, vibrant color washes and eye-catching chase patterns from the same compact fixture.
 
“When we first saw the Jolt 300 we immediately thought of Breeze,” stated Antonis, “and the new circular structure provided the perfect opportunity to install them. In total we supplied six fixtures for the circle, positioned in between the Vizi Beam 12RXs, and an additional six units for the VIP balcony. The central fixtures are used to create both strobe and chase effects, while the lights on the balcony are primarily used for color washes. Again, we have been very impressed by these fixtures, they are compact but also powerful and flexible.”
 
The new equipment has been integrated into the club’s lighting system alongside a variety of other ADJ fixtures. A total of 26 Vizi Beam 5RX moving heads, which are now discontinued but still serve the club reliably, are positioned around the edges of the canopy structures, pointing in towards the central dance area. Other ADJ fixtures utilized in smaller quantities include Focus Spot 4Z moving heads, Encore Burst 200 LED-powered audience blinders, and Sweeper Beam Quad LED panning linear LED battens.

ADJ atmospheric equipment is also employed by the venue to create impactful effects as well as to enhance the visibility of the lighting rig’s beam effects. Two Fog Fury Jett and one Fog Fury Jett Pro LED-lit fog machines are mounted along the side of the VIP balcony, positioned to shoot out horizontal columns of fog onto the dancefloor area. Meanwhile, a pair of Entourage touring grade haze machines are utilized for creating a beam-enhancing atmosphere throughout the club.
 
Following an exceptionally difficult few years for nightclubs and other nighttime entertainment venues throughout the pandemic, Breeze Summer Club was able to bounce back for the 2022 season, once again welcoming capacity crowds of party goers. The new ADJ fixtures installed at the beginning of the summer lifted the club’s lighting system to a new peak, helping the venue retain its reputation as one of the most impressive clubbing destinations on the island. Meanwhile, the rest of the lighting rig - comprised of ADJ fixtures, some of which date back many seasons - is a testament to the longevity and reliability of ADJ equipment.
