ADJ European Festival Highlights 2024

Throughout the summer of 2024, ADJ fixtures were used to illuminate countless festivals across Europe. From small boutique events for crowds of hundreds to huge gatherings attended by tens of thousands, ADJ’s versatile range of professional lighting fixtures provided LDs with the right tools for the job. ADJ luminaires were used to illuminate performers and décor, create crisp GOBO projections, fill the night sky with razor-sharp aerial effects, generate intense strobe and blinder effects, and many other duties.

Offering essential protection from the elements and therefore ideal for use on exposed outdoor stages, ADJ’s Hydro Series of IP65-rated moving heads proved particularly popular. The IP65-rated static LED pars, bars and panels from the Encore Series were also utilized extensively, both for illuminating stages and providing ambient lighting across festival sites. For creating intense on-stage effects, the Jolt Series bars and panels were the fixtures of choice, while beam-enhancing haze was generated on many stages by ADJ’s Entour Series of atmospheric effect generators.

Here is a selection of highlights from ADJ’s European festival season:

Luminosity Beach Festival

Over 130 ADJ fixtures were deployed on the main stage of Luminosity Beach Festival, a four-day open-air trance festival held in the Netherlands. The stage played host to trance legends Markus Shulz, Aly & Fila, Paul Oakenfold and Paul van Dyk, to name just a few.

Lakefest

For the second consecutive year, a significant quantity of ADJ fixtures were used to illuminate the main stage at the UK’s LakeFest. This year’s festival featured live performances by The Libertines, the Stranglers, Olly Murs, Kosheen and Jack Bugg as well as DJ sets from Sigala, Rudimental, David Rodigan, Jaguar Skills and many more. Performers on stage were illuminated by 12P HEX IP LED pars, while 32 HEX Panel IP LED panels generated back wash and eye candy effects. A combination of Focus Spot 6Z, Focus Spot 4Z and Vizi Beam RXONE automated luminaires provided GOBO projections as well as crisp aerial effects.

SonneMondSterne

A significant quantity of ADJ fixtures were utilized for one of the outdoor stages at SonneMondSterne (SunMoonStars), the three-day electronic music festival in held near Saalburg-Ebersdorf in Germany. IP65-rated Hydro Beam X12 fixtures generated piercing aerial effects that filled the night sky after dark, while the new Jolt Bar FXIP linear LED fixtures were integrated into the set behind the DJ booth and used to create intense strobe and blinder effects.

Intents

One of the largest hard dance events in the Netherlands, Intents festival attracts thousands of fans of the genre from across Europe. This year, ADJ’s IP65-rated luminaires were utilized extensively for two of the event’s outdoor stages.

Complex

At the heart of the main stage’s rig at this year’s two-day Complex dance festival were 48 of ADJ’s potent Vizi Beam 12RX automated luminaires, which were used to fill the huge arena with piercing aerial effects in a variety of saturated colors.

Puro Latino

ADJ’s powerful and versatile Focus Profile LED-powered automated luminaires were once again deployed on the main stage at this year’s huge Puro Latino festival in Spain. The fixtures were used to illuminate the performers on stage as well as to generate aerial effects and GOBO projections. In addition, for the 2024 festival, the new Jolt Bar FXIP multifunctional linear wash / strobe / blinder fixtures were also utilized.

Bērzes Strazdi

A lighting package consisting predominantly of ADJ fixtures was utilized for the main stage at Bērzes Strazdi, the largest Latvian Summer Solstice festival in the UK. Held at Catthorpe Manor Estate in Leicestershire, the three-day event attracted 4000 festival goers and featured a varied lineup of musical performances.

REBELLiON Outdoor

Following almost 10 years of success organizing large indoor events, REBELLiON - the RAW Hardstyle sub brand of promoter REBiRTH - ventured outdoors for the first time this summer. The one-day REBELLiON Outdoor festival took place near Amsterdam in the Netherlands and attracted thousands of visitors who enjoyed music performed across five stages. Lighting for the four largest performance areas was provided by production company Spectrum AV, which extensively utilized ADJ fixtures drawn from its significant rental inventory.

King’s Day, Emmen

Every year, the Netherlands celebrates ‘Koningsdag’ (King’s Day’) on the birthday of their reigning monarch. The day is marked throughout the country, however the focus of the celebrations each year is on the one town or city at which the king attends the festivities in person. In 2024, the town of Emmen was selected and used the opportunity to host a huge free festival. A variety of ADJ luminaires were utilized for the main stage. Throughout the day of celebrations it featured a variety of musical performances from live bands, DJs and an orchestra, as well as an official appearance by king Willem-Alexander, much of which was broadcast on national TV.

Stadtfest Monheim

For the second consecutive year, ADJ fixtures were heavily utilized to illuminate the main stage at the Stadtfest (City Festival) in Monheim am Rhein, Germany. This free event, which featured entertainment and attractions for all ages, ran across a full weekend. Erected in the very heart of the city, the main stage hosted an evening party program which ran late into the night on the Friday and Saturday evenings, featuring live performances and headline DJ sets from Topic and Alle Farben.

Dominator

Almost 300 ADJ lighting fixtures were deployed across four of the stages at the Dominator Festival in the Netherlands. Organised by Art of Dance, the event is the world’s largest hardcore dance music gathering. Amongst a variety of ADJ fixtures, the team from production company Spectrum AV utilized their new Vizi Beam CMY dedicated beam moving heads and Jolt Panel FXIP multifunctional LED wash/strobe/blinders. A total of 98 of the beam luminaires were used to generated piercing aerial effects in a spectrum of vibrant colors, while 18 of the LED strobes provided intense flashes of white light as well as washes of rich saturated color.

Into The Madness

ADJ fixtures were utilized heavily for the ‘Core’ stage at Into The Madness 2024, Germany’s biggest outdoor hardstyle dance festival. Housed inside a large circus-style tent, the stage featured a pair of triangle-shaped trusses, one of which was inverted, that framed the DJ position. Both trusses were lined with ADJ’s versatile Jolt Bar FX LED fixtures, which were used to generate vibrant background washes, intricate animated effects and blinding strobe flashes. These were complemented by aerial effects generated by a significant quantity of ADJ’s compact Vizi Beam RXONE and larger Vizi Beam 12RX dedicated beam luminaires. ADJ fixtures were also deployed for ‘The Dunes’, a smaller open-air stage. Here the new IP65-rated Jolt Bar FXIP provided both eye candy effects and strobe hits, deployed in pairs on vertical pipes each topped with an Encore Burst 200 warm white LED blinder. Meanwhile, IP65-rated Hydro Beam X12 automated luminaires lined the front of the stage and were used to shoot piercing beams into the night sky after dark.

Give Soul

Held at the RDM Onderzeebootloods (a former submarine launching facility!), the main stage at this year’s Give Soul festival in Rotterdam featured a lighting rig consisting primarily of ADJ fixtures. Supplied by Spectrum AV, the new Vizi Beam CMY took centre stage. 12 of the units were mounted to a circular truss flown above the DJ position. Four additional truss circles were then each used to hang six of ADJ’s versatile Focus Flex LED wash-zoom luminaires, while eight of the new Jolt Panel FXIP fixtures were utilized to generate background glow effects behind the beams. In addition, four of ADJ’s lime-infused Encore LB15IP linear LED wash fixtures were used to illuminate performers on the stage.

Electrisize

Over 100 ADJ IP65-rated fixtures, including 50+ Hydro Series moving heads, were deployed by production company Spectrum AV for the main stage of this year’s Electrisize festival in Germany. A combination of Hydro Profile, Hydro Beam X12 and Hydro Wash X19 automated luminaires were used to fill the stage, crowd area and night sky with vibrant colors, crisp GOBO projections, and piercing beams. In addition, 32 HEX Panel IP and 7P HEX IP static LED-powered wash fixtures were used to illuminate the stage’s structure and intricate décor. Finally, a combination of LED-powered Encore FR50Z Fresnels and lime-infused color mixing Encore LB15IP linear LED fixtures were used to light the performers on stage.

Solar Weekend

Full service AVL supplier, Brasson, provided production for the techno area of the Solar Weekend festival in the Netherlands. The company’s team deployed ADJ’s Vizi Beam 12RX automated luminaires alongside 7P HEX IP static LED pars. The fixtures filled the cavernous dance space with piercing beams and vibrant swathes of saturated color.

REBiRTH

ADJ’s flagship IP65-rated Hydro Profile automated luminaires were used alongside almost 300 other ADJ fixtures to illuminate two of the areas at the 2024 Rebirth hard dance festival held in the Netherlands. The event’s outdoor stage allowed festivalgoers the unique experience of riding the huge Ferris wheel which provided the focal point for its set design. This was integrated into the stage’s lighting design through vibrant swathes of color generated by the Hydro Profiles, while the rest of the stage set was illuminated by static LED wash fixtures from ADJ’s IP65-rated range and adorned with additional Hydro Series wash and beam fixtures.

Heaven & Hill

For the second year running, production companies Creative Sounds and Laserframe utilized a significant quantity of ADJ fixtures for the Silver Stage at the annual Heaven and Hill electronic music festival. The lighting rig featured Vizi Beam 12RX dedicated beam luminaires as well as Jolt Bar FX LED-powered strobe / blinder / wash fixtures. High intensity blasts of smoke were created by Fog Fury 3000 1500W fog machines, while an atmospheric haze to enhance the beam effects was created by Entour Haze Pro oil-based haze generators.

Verknipt

A variety of ADJ fixtures were used for one of the outdoor stages at the Verknipt Festival. The brand-new Jolt Panel FXIP multifunctional IP65-rated fixtures were used to generate intense strobe and blinder effects as well as to bathe the crowd in vibrant color washes. Meanwhile, IP65-rated Hydro Beam X12 moving head beams were used to generate aerial effects that pierced the night sky, while Hydro Beam X19 wash moving heads added additional swathes of color.
